Teenage hacker, Emika Chen struggles to make ends meet, even with her job as a bounty hunter, hunting people who illegally bet on Warcross, a virtual reality game that has taken the world by storm. Needing to make some extra money, Emika hacks into the opening game of the international Warcross Championships. She accidentally glitches herself into the game and gets caught. Instead of getting arrested, she is whisked off to Tokyo to meet the game’s creator, Hideo Tanaka, who wants Emika as a spy in this year’s tournament. However, all the fame and fortune is not what it seems to be.
My review
Warcross is a young adult, science fiction novel that focuses on technology, and it’s dangers. It explores how video games and social media might evolve in the future and brings awareness to the issues this could cause for people’s privacy. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes technology and gaming.

Although it was a wonderful read, I felt the ending wasn’t entirely unexpected. Regardless of that, I still really enjoyed the book and think it will change readers’ opinions on how much they rely on technology, and will open their eyes to how, even something as harmless as a video game, can be used to manipulate people.
Marie Lu, author of the Legend trilogy, made Warcross interesting by including diverse characters, and incredible world-building. The main character is a smart and independent female lead. The book shows readers that every problem has a solution. Warcross made me realise that social media and technology can have a negative effect on people’s lives.
WHO ELSE READ THIS BOOK? ALSO, ARE YOU GUYS INTO GAMING?
Love to hear from you!
